Why does the sensor lens extrude slightly as opposed to the flat lens on the older AL models?

To achieve even higher receiver sensitivity our new sensors are using an optical receiver lens. The performance increase obtained when compared to the G9RX sensor is about +20% even though the new sensor is dramaticaly smaller in size. With this performance boost our reception floor is now 4X better then the closest competing product.
